Countdown to Celebration:
Join the award-winning StreamSweepers Job Corps, Rapidan Mill LLC, and other Partners interested in creating new economic opportunities for rural landowners for a one of a kind party on the river.
StreamSweepers is a young adult river valley assessment and riverside cleaning service that in 2014 provided 15 jobs restoring nature in rural Virginia.
Celebrating the cleaning of 40 miles of the Rapidan and Robinson River Valleys in Central Virginia during 2014, StreamSweepers Celebration at Historic Rapidan Mill will be held Saturday evening, September 20, from 6-9 p.m., with food, beverages, live band, and tours of the Mill, on the river in beautiful Rapidan, Virginia. Also at the event, Phil and Suzie Audibert’s new StreamSweepers 2014 Documentary will be premiered.
This unique event is a small token of StreamSweepers’ appreciation for our riverside landowner customers and watershed financial supporters backing of this innovative river landscape service. Also, as a way to introduce new customers to this nationally recognized service, limited tickets will be made available to the general public through $39, $59, $79, and $99 ticket packages. It’s easy to purchase, just click on the Buy Now Buttons on this page for online purchase or send a check to the Center for Natural Capital, P.O. Box 901, Orange, VA 22960. And with great bluegrass music from The Davis Bradley Duo, smoked BBQ from Hen and Bacon, activewear from Blue Ridge Embroidery, and videography from AudibertPhoto.com, there’s something for everyone!
StreamSweepers is an innovative river assessment and cleanup service paid for by riverside landowners and others concerned about the health of a particular river valley. StreamSweepers trains and employs high school and college-aged students to assess and clean portions of a river valley while instructing them in college-level geology, ecological history, economics, sociology, and entrepreneur-based conservation techniques. With this training, the Sweepers improve the beauty and health of the Rapidan and Robinson River Valleys, and enhance the value of our river valleys for recreation and tourism. This summer, StreamSweepers removed over 15,000 lbs. of tires, rusted appliances, and old furniture. They also conducted cutting edge water analyses while quantifying the health of river valley ecosystems.
About Rapidan Mill
Roughly a decade ago, Rapidan Mill LLC purchased the historic Rapidan Mill in Rapidan, Virginia. The new owners fell in love with the craftsmanship of the machinery and wooden chutes remaining in the historic grain mill and felt there had to be modern uses for a structure so beautiful and intricate, from an industrial design perspective.
Today, the Mill generates a small quantity of hydropower, while the owners seek new eco-business and industrial uses that will complement the rural agrarian landscape, provide local jobs, and also improve the health of the Rapidan River Valley. For this unique event, floors of the Mill will be especially prepared for music, food and beverage, and informational displays, with gorgeous views of the river and surrounding farmland.
Directions to the Mill
Rapidan Mill is located on Rt. 615, 7 miles north of the town of Orange, Virginia.
